Hello, I just got a new motherboard and am having no sound from the
motherboard, except when I use p669 playing .669 files. Any advise?
This motherboard seemed to have trouble recognizing floppy drives, too.
Thanks...Mike

QUICK MIDI PATCH LOADER
Quick MIDI Patch Loader works with any Windows soundcard that
supports patch caching, e.g. the Advanced Gravis UltraSound.
It offers the following features:
Easy Automation
Command-line parameters are provided to automate
repetitive MIDI patch loading needs. You can create
Program Manager Program Items (icons) to load
different customized patch sets for each of your
non-patch-caching-aware applications.
Fast Interactive Patch Loading
The interactive dialog starts quickly, even on slow
computers. If you know what patches you need this
program is the fastest way to load them.
Flexible
Combinations of command-line and interactive input
can be used. Comprehensive help is available via
the Windows Help System.
To install Quick MIDI Patch Loader simply copy PATCHLDR.EXE
and PATCHLDR.HLP to a directory, and then create a Program
Item (icon) for PATCHLDR.EXE using the File | New command
in the Windows Program Manager.

Just started reading the latest issue of BYTE magazine; seems that the
staff there picked the Ultrasound MAX w/ 3d as runner up to the best
multimedia product at COMDEX...
Keep it up gravis, and where are my disks :)

I mentioned this a while ago. I too am using DRDOS, so it seems this is the
cause of the problems. I've had no other problems though - e.g. SBOS has always
worked, whatever version I use.
The worry is that the Windows installation looks as though it's a commercially
available software package for performing Windows installations of anything, so
the fault is probably not due to Gravis. Other software that uses this for
Windows installation might also not work - but I've not come across any. If
anyone has access to netnews then they could bring this up in an appropriate
group (I don't have access). Alternatively, does the company who wrote this have
an email address?

Hi y'all
I feel like an orphan out here on CIS without Internet access.
Tried to get the file server to send me TOYTRAIN.POW. No luck.
Can someone possibly forward me TOYTRAIN.POW, and any other .POW files that
have been uploaded by users? I'd sure appreciate it.
Thanks,
Eric

I was wondering, could someone please give me a list of programs that work with
megaem? I have been trying but to no avail... I tried jrob and others but they
didn't work... Am I doing something wrong maybe... I would prefer a list of
shareware programs, that I could get my hands on to test... Thanks...

Got a Mitsumi CD ROM drive today, and I am not getting any audio
CD sound from PLAYCD. I hooked up the audio line from Mitsumi
card to GUS card like this:
[||||] Mitsumi
||||
||||
||||
||||
||||
||||
YYYY GUS
/ \/ \
white (2) white
black
I removed the plastic cover on the GUS end and inserted the the
metal sleeves over the pins on the GUS connection, and taped
them in place. I tried using the Mixer app to select Line In,
but I still get no sound through the GUS from the CD when trying
to play an audio CD. The GUS Line Out is plugged into my
stereo's DAT input.
Did I get the wires crossed? Is this even supposed to work this
way? If not, what am I supposed to do with the Mitsumi to GUS
connection?
All the drivers loaded just fine. I left the Mitsumi at its
defaults DMA=5, IRQ=10, I/O=300-303. The GUS is also at all of
its defaults ULTRASND=220,1,1,11,7. I have other devices, but
there is no apparent conflict, and I was very careful to make
sure everybody had their own IRQ and port assignments. If you
want to know, I have:
COM1 - 3f8, irq4
COM2 - 2f8, irq3
COM3 - 3e8, irq15
COM4 - 1e8, irq12
ATI bus mouse - 23c-23f, irq2(9)
ATI Graphics Ultra 8514/a - 2e0-2e8

The Betrayal at Krondor playable demo worked fine for me with SBOS. I got
both music and speech without using any SBOS options. I also tried the
demo using Mega-Em .06B, and the music sounded really good.
Ultramid doesn't do anything unless a program uses it specifically (either
directly or via the GUS' AIL drivers which then use Ultramid). BAK
doesn't use Ultramid, nor does it have any AIL drivers for us to replace.
So, since you won't need Ultramid, don't load it. (That goes for SBOS
and Mega-Em as well... Don't have any GUS driver resident in memory
if it's not needed since all these emulators can't share the GUS.)

The disks for registrations received by May '93 have already been
mailed out. I guess you just missed that deadline. I don't know
when the next mail-out will be.

Ultrasnd.ini is only used by the Windows driver, not Playmidi, which
uses default.cfg. So, you must edit default.cfg (in /ultrasnd/midi)
and change 45 tremstr to 45 marcato OR download the tremstr.pat file
found in gus0034.zip (I think). If you download the patch, remember to
edit ultrasnd.ini and change 44=marcato to 44=tremstr. (The numbers
are different because default.cfg uses base 1 while ultrasnd.ini uses
base 0 for the patch numbers.)

Syndicate works (both music and digital sounds) with SBOS, using no
options. The trick is to have you GUS on port 220h, with its MIDI/SB
IRQ at 7, or to use the switches /iirq, etc., to tell main.exe where your
virtual SB is. (Main.exe is usually started by a .bat file, so edit
the .bat file or invoke main.exe directly from the DOS prompt to start
the game.)

You seem to be using an ancient version of the Windows driver (which tended
to screech after a .wav was played if SBOS was run before Windows was
booted). Uninstall it and download the 2.06L disks from the archives.
